School Health

This is a new publication for school nurses and their teams, and for anyone in the health or education fields with an interest in school health.

These are exciting times for school nursing. The challenge of improving Britain's health starts with our children, and school nurses have a unique opportunity to influence the health of young people. Not only do they work with the children during the school term but are increasingly working with families too. In some areas they are working with health visitors and their influence extends to preschool.

VOLUME 4 NO 1

In this Issue:

INTERGRATED NURSING TEAMS
School nurses play a key role in an integrated nursing team by improving the health of the local community as well as competing their role with young people. This article offers practical advice on how to develop the integrated approach and build a successful team. Accommodation and organisation within a GP are considered, together with the benefits of working as part of an integrated nursing team.
Barbara Richardson-Todd

BACK TO SCHOOL: FIGHTING HEAD LICE
Head lice are a common infestation among children and their families, but are easily controlled when discovered quickly. Diagnosis is based on finding live insects. School nurses have a key role in educating families and school staff about the detection and ways of treating headlice, including insecticidal lotions, non-pesticide products, alternative treatments and wet combing.
