HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS ENCEPHALOPATHY
HIV encephalopathy must be considered in the differential diagnosis of any child with abnormalities of muscle tone or tendon reflexes. Other infections, such as neurotuberculosis, should be ruled out. Highly active antiretroviral therapy can slow the progress of the condition and possibly halt further deterioration.
